HOW TO HELP
The children and adults who benefit from the work of the St Francis Outreach Trust can only enjoy these benefits thanks to the support of our generous donors. You can help them out in many ways. Financial donations to the Trust are always welcome, and we require a steady stream of income to fund our projects. Gifts-in-kind from furniture to educational items are also always appreciated. For those who want a more hands-on involvement with the Trust, there are plenty of opportunities to donate time and skills around the foster homes.
Financial assistance
The St Francis Outreach Trust is currently seeking once-off capital funding to build its first Homes of Home foster home in Masiphumelele, as well as ongoing funding for the daily operations of the foster home once it is up and running. State subsidies will partly cover the running costs, but your support is urgently needed.
A total of R550 000 is required to completely build and furnish the first foster home, including the cost of the plot. This money has been loaned from the St Francis Church parish, and we are therefore seeking funds to repay these costs. The progression towards our target amount is shown on the barometer below. To find out how to make a donation, click here. Any furnishings that are donated to the Trust will offset some costs, and donations of items in good working order are always welcomed. The furnishings required for the foster home are as follows:
- Washing machine
- Tumble dryer
- Oven and hob
- Fridge/freezer
- Microwave
- Pots and pans
- Kettle
- Toaster
- Iron
- Heater
- TV
- Fan
- Couches
- Table and chairs
- Beds
- Lamps
- Cutlery and crockery
- Curtains
- Towels
- Runners and floor mats
In addition to our building requirements we also need ongoing funding so that the children living in our foster homes can eat, have water and electricy, clothes in good condition and educational supplies. The monthly cost of keeping a child in one of our foster homes is ZAR 150 (USD 20 / GBP 12). By sponsoring a child on a month-to-month basis, you will be helping that child to overcome the difficulties that have been thrown his or her way in life so that he or she can grow to their full potential.
Such a guesture would make a massive difference in the life of a precious child.
Donating your time and skills
People, not possessions, make all the difference whe it comes to helping others. There are many areas of our projects where we need your help, from helping to build structures to helping the children with their homework. There are opportunities for getting involved in the following areas:

- Planting a garden
- Teaching the children music and reading
- Building a play area
- Taking the children on outings
- Helping out the foster mothers

Other gifts-in-kind
We still need a few more things though, so any of the following would add that extra warm and homely feeling to any of our foster homes. Firstly, for the children themselves:
- Educational toys - on birthdays and Christmas
- School material: crayons, pensils, paper, note books etc.
- School uniforms
- Cell phone for the foster mother
